Wild guess:

If LDAP contexts change there could be an issue here. I don't honestly
know if associations update themselves when they change but in 99.99% of
cases they don't change. If they do then they could end up broken.
LDAP may be a bad example as searching for things via LDAP is
case-insensitive as a rule. Thankfully most systems' "uniqueness" is
not changeable (eDir/AD GUIDs, for example) and, even if they are, they
don't change often (primary keys in JDBC, LDAP DNs, etc.).
